Présentation : « This international symposium will be a gathering of indigenous community members, international lawyers, academics and activists who have worked in the area of international law and the rights of Indigenous Peoples from the 1970s up until the present. While the passage, in 2007, of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples initially raised expectations that the rights of Indigenous Peoples and their survival as distinct peoples would be protected, it is now seen to be more concerned with broad universal human rights. How does it stand now: does the Declaration advantage the protection of Indigenous Peoples and provide for their advancement? Is the guarantee of their human rights sufficient to prevent the ongoing abuses and genocide visited upon Indigenous Peoples? »
